How to Do Isometric Stretching: Simple Examples You Can Try Right Now

1. Quadriceps Stretch
Stand and pull one foot toward your glutes. Instead of just holding it there, press your foot against your hand (like you’re trying to straighten your leg, but your hand is resisting). Hold for 5ish seconds, release, and then gently pull your foot a bit closer.
2. Shoulder Stretch
Extend one arm across your chest. Use your other hand to gently press against it. Now, push your extended arm away from your body (against the resistance of your other hand) for 5 seconds or so. Release, then pull your arm in a bit closer.
3. Hip Flexor Stretch
Get into a lunge position. Before deepening the stretch, press your back foot firmly into the ground and engage like you’re trying to drag it forward (without actually moving it).
