How to find modifications that best fit your body
Everybody is different and so are our needs
We have talked about why setting goals that work for you are important, we have focussed on why finding a routine tailored to your schedule is key, now let’s talk about modifications that best fit your body.
Modifications alleviate discomfort and remove barriers. In order to get the most of your flexibility and movement routine, you will want to find the right modifications in order to improve range and mobility while protecting against damage to your body. Struggling unnecessarily not only prevents you from mastering proper form but it can take a toll on your confidence. Your movement journey should help make you feel good!
Modifications are used at any level from beginners to the pros. If you need to place your hands on a chair or against the wall to keep proper form, do it! Your goal is to get strong and flexy, and there are different routes you can take to get there.
I myself use blocks to help my hands reach the ground in a lunge. Don’t have blocks? You can use books. Props don’t need to cost you the big bucks. Use a pillow or blanket for some extra support. You can even use a pair of old stockings as a resistance band.
Progress takes time, so be patient with yourself and use the resources you have available (psst, like me, I can be a resource!) Need suggestions on modifications that work for you? Want to learn more about props? Give me a shout!
