Finding time for you as the seasons change.
If you’re in the Northern Hemisphere like us at FWV, your days have probably begun to look much sunnier… and much busier!
With warm weather comes all the good stuff— gardening, ice cream, trips, more time with friends… but there are only so many hours in a sunny day! As our schedules begin to bloom, how do we continue to find time for movement?
First, it’s helpful to acknowledge that your winter and your summer movement routines will inevitably look different. The time of day when you’re most energized will probably change, and your free time will, too. Try not to be discouraged. Instead, spring clean your movement routine, and figure out what movement could look like for you during this busier time!
To help do this, look for those small pockets of time. While you might not have the whole evening free after work like you did during the winter, an extra 20-minutes between work and your afternoon plans is more than enough time to move. Or, those 15-minutes while your dinner is in the oven! You might not have as much time for exercise, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still incorporate a few minutes of movement.
Speaking of which, consider how you can better prioritize movement. It’s easy to bulldoze ‘you’ time for exciting social events and other commitments, but it’s important to remember that taking care of your mind and body should be a priority. Instead of waiting for leftover time in your schedule, make movement a non-negotiable part of your week. Making time for you should be just as important as making time for anyone else!
Finally, find a movement routine you can do from anywhere. That way, if you’re away at a cottage, spending the weekend with friends, or visiting family, you won’t have any blocks between you and your movement. Plus, having a remote movement routine cuts out the extra time spent getting ready for, and commuting to the gym or studio. Find something you can do anywhere, anytime!
Making time for movement is especially important during busier times. It helps keep your mind feeling calm and collected, and your body strong and flexible for whatever fun spring activities come your way.
